Programs
Base Camp is Outlier Ventures’ 12-week accelerator program, designed to provide Web3 founders with worldwide expert support. The program includes expert-led sessions, dedicated advisory, and culminates in a demo day attended by top-tier investors.
Ascent is Outlier Ventures’ premier global token launch program. It delivers expert advice and aid for later-stage projects, focusing on critical areas such as token launch strategy, token design, go-to-market planning, and product development. The program is crafted to set teams up for long-term, sustainable victory by offering tailored expertise and resources in these essential areas.
About the Role
We are seeking an Investment Manager to lead and manage the recruitment and signing of top teams in Web3 and beyond to participate in one of Outlier’s accelerator programs—either Base Camp or Ascent. You will play a pivotal role in the leading Web3 accelerator’s deal flow pipeline, engaging with early-stage ventures, and gaining comprehensive exposure to founders, technologies, and partners.
Leading the investments of selected quarterly accelerator programs, you will build upon Outlier’s 10 years of dealmaking, working closely with Accelerator Leads, investment staff, and subject matter experts in Product and Engineering, Fundraising, Token Economies, and Growth Marketing to fortify the investment team, manage program deal flow, optimize the investment process, and develop investment theses in conjunction with senior management.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage thorough diligence on accelerator applicants, including operational and financial diligence, to form a robust view of each company’s employees, products, technologies, go-to-market plans, competitive position, addressable market, and other key drivers pertinent to making investment decisions.
- Develop a thesis for the responsible cohort program in collaboration with the research team, accelerator leads, and subject matter experts.
- Manage and oversee the overall process and logistics related to recruitment activities, including the preparation of investment materials, running investment committees, as well as negotiating and signing contracts with teams.
- Cultivate relationships and interactions with prospective founders, ensuring candidates perceive Outlier’s unique value proposition and experience seamless interactions and communication throughout the recruitment cycle.
- Articulate a sharp investment point of view on categories and companies, justifying investments to achieve substantial returns by understanding disruptive market technology trends, facilitating the creation of market maps, and targeting potential investment opportunities.
- Supervise selected market research activities, ensuring the team develops core competencies across sectors within Web3 and beyond (AI, DePin, DeFi, gaming, infrastructure, etc.).
Requirements
- 3-5 years of experience in fast-paced environments within technology, startups, entrepreneurship, and venture capital, with 3+ years specifically in Web3.
- Proficiency in diligence, term sheets, negotiations, and supporting/making investment recommendations.
- Desire to be part of and lead a fast-growing team with the creativity to think out-of-the-box about new opportunities and other ways to develop and grow our business.
- Ability to work cross-functionally and collaboratively with early-stage partners, with an ability to self-manage in an unstructured environment.
- Strong investor mental model with demonstrable results of your investment decisions, both good and bad.
- Comfort with minimal direction and high expectations.
- Abilities in public speaking and community development are essential.
- Firm understanding and familiarity with Web3, crypto, and blockchain concepts and ecosystems.
- Ability to synthesize complex information, form a sharp point of view, and communicate it clearly and concisely to different audiences.
- Understanding of scalable systems and processes.
- Eagerness and proven ability to learn new domains and technologies swiftly.
